Tarique Rahman decides to leave Bogra-6
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has contested from Dhaka-17 and Bogra-6 constituencies in the 13th National Parliament election and won both.
According to the law, even if elected to more than one constituency, an MP can retain only one seat. Accordingly, he has decided to leave Bogra-6 constituency and take oath as an MP from Dhaka-17 constituency. Election Commission sources confirmed this information on Monday February 16.
According to the election law, if a person is elected from more than one constituency, he must inform in writing within 30 days of the publication of the gazette which seat he will retain. If a decision is not made within the stipulated time, the Election Commission can declare the remaining seats vacant.
Tarique Rahman received 72,699 votes in the unofficial results of Dhaka-17 constituency. His nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate SM Khaliduzzaman, received 68,300 votes. The total number of voters was 3,33,813; 1,47,888 votes were cast, of which 1,45,677 were valid votes and 2,211 were invalid.
He won the Bogra-6 constituency by getting 2,16,284 votes. His nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Abidur Rahman Sohel, received 97,626 votes.
