Tarique Rahman elected Prime Minister, Leader of Parliament

After securing an absolute majority in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has been unanimously elected as Leader of Parliament and Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

The parliamentary party meeting, chaired by Tarique Rahman after the newly elected MPs took their oaths, confirmed his appointment.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Tuesday (February 17) at the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, with Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin administering the oath.

Domestic and international dignitaries attended the event.

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed briefed new MPs on the party’s position regarding the Constitutional Reform Council.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the new cabinet are scheduled to take the oath before President Mohammad Sahabuddin at the South Plaza of the National Parliament at 4pm.

The Cabinet Division will issue official notifications of ministerial portfolios later in the evening.
