Tarique Rahman mourns death of renowned journalist Mark Tully
BNP chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned journalist and Bangladesh’s Liberation War steadfast friend, Mark Tully.
In a post on his verified Facebook page early Monday morning (January 26), Tarique Rahman described Tully as a respected journalist who brought the stories of Bangladesh’s Liberation War and its people’s struggles, hopes, and resilience to the world through his work with the BBC.
He praised Tully’s journalism as honest, humane, and deeply committed to truth, noting his solidarity and courageous reporting during Bangladesh’s formative and crisis periods. “We will always remember his contributions and remain forever grateful,” Tarique Rahman wrote.
He also conveyed condolences to Tully’s bereaved family, friends, and long-time BBC colleagues, wishing peace to his departed soul.
Mark Tully, aged 90, passed away Sunday afternoon in a hospital in India, after being seriously ill and under medical care for a week. He served as the BBC’s South Asia correspondent during Bangladesh’s 1971 Liberation War.
