Tarique Rahman set to tour nine northern districts from Jan 11
After nearly 17 years, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman is set to embark on his first district tour outside Dhaka.
As part of the continuous tour, he will visit nine northern districts from January 11 to 14. The BNP has written to the government seeking security arrangements for the trip.
A press release from the BNP chairman’s office on Wednesday (January 7) stated that the tour’s main purpose is to pay respects at the graves of July martyrs, activists killed during the long democratic movement, and participate in prayer gatherings for BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s departed soul.
The release emphasised that Tarique Rahman will strictly adhere to the Election Commission’s code of conduct and will not violate any rules during the tour.
On the first day, January 11, after completing programmes in Dhaka, he will meet party workers in Gazipur, Tangail, and Sirajganj before proceeding to Bogura.
On January 12, the tour will begin from Bogura and continue to Rangpur, Dinajpur, and Thakurgaon for organisational activities. On the same day, he will pay tribute and offer prayers at the grave of July–August uprising martyr Abu Sayed in Rangpur.
On January 13, Tarique Rahman will meet party leaders and workers in Panchagarh, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, and Kurigram.
The tour will conclude on January 14, with additional programmes in Rangpur and Bogura, after which he will return to Dhaka. During the tour, he will also visit the graves of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, Tayeba Majumdar, and other July martyrs, and hold courtesy meetings with their family members.
