BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will contest the upcoming parliamentary election from Dhaka-17.

On Sunday (December 28), A B M Abdus Sattar, personal secretary to the BNP Chairperson, collected the nomination form on his behalf.

According to the BNP media cell, Abdus Sattar arrived at the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner’s office in Segunbagicha at 10:50am and received the nomination form from Commissioner Sharf Uddin Ahmed Choudhury at 11:10am.

Dhaka-17 covers upscale areas including Gulshan, Banani, and Baridhara.

Earlier, it was reported that BNP ally, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Andalib Rahman Partho, was expected to contest from this seat. The seat was among three constituencies in Dhaka that BNP had left vacant.

BNP sources said Tarique Rahman applied to be a voter in Dhaka-17 on Saturday, after which senior party leaders requested him to contest from the constituency. In response, Andalib Rahman Partho, respecting Tarique Rahman’s position, decided to shift his candidacy to Bhola-1.

Tarique Rahman is also preparing to contest from Bogura-6, according to party sources.
