Tarique Rahman urges for quick announcement of election results

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Thursday (February 12) urged the Election Commission to announce the results of the national polls promptly, stressing the need for transparency and public confidence.

Speaking briefly to reporters at his Gulshan office after casting his vote and visiting several polling centres, Tarique Rahman said, “Voters should be able to know the outcome of their votes without delay. The Election Commission must take effective steps to ensure this.”

He warned that any delay in declaring results could create confusion and undermine public trust.

Tarique also alleged that unwanted incidents had been reported in various areas even before polling day and called on law enforcement agencies to play an active role in maintaining a peaceful voting environment.

“The people’s spontaneous participation in voting will render any conspiracy ineffective,” he said. “If the election is free and fair, we will accept the results. But any attempt at manipulation or creating confusion will not be tolerated.”

He added, “Only a peaceful and impartial election can strengthen the foundations of democracy.”
