Tarique Rahman visits Jamaat Ameer's residence
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman arrived at the residence of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman in the Bashundhara area at 7:15 pm on Sunday.
BNP is on course to form the government after securing two-thirds of the seats in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, while the Jamaat alliance, with 77 seats, is positioned as the main opposition party. Such political courtesies before the oath-taking of a new government are rare in the country's history.
BNP's Press Wing said this was done as part of political etiquette. Jamaat's Assistant Secretary General and Media Head Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer said, "When Tarique Rahman expressed interest in visiting Shafiqur Rahman's residence, we welcomed it."
Later tonight, around 8 pm, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit the residence of National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam.
