Tarique Rahman will hold bilateral meeting with PM of Pakistan on September 24

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is staying in New York of the United States to join the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. During the visit he will sit in a formal bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif next Thursday (September 24).

It has been learnt from the sources of the Prime Minister’s press wing that this half-hour meeting will be held from 11:30am to 12pm local time of New York. This will be the first formal bilateral meeting between the heads of government of the two countries on the 34th floor of the Secretariat building of the United Nations headquarters.

Tarique Rahman will give a speech at the session of the United Nations General Assembly in the afternoon itself on September 24. He will deliver his statement as the 11th speaker among a total of 18 speakers at the session that is going to start at 3pm New York time. The possible time of the speech of the Prime Minister has been fixed at 5:30pm.

Earlier on Thursday morning the Prime Minister will take part in a high-level meeting organised to deal with the existential crisis created due to the rise of sea level. There he will give a five-minute inaugural speech. Later he is scheduled to give an inaugural speech at another high-level programme organised on the matter of including midwifery in primary healthcare to reduce the preventable deaths of mothers and newborns. The spouse of the Prime Minister is scheduled to give the concluding speech at the programme.

As part of the diplomatic programmes of the day Tarique Rahman will take part in a greetings exchange and photo session with the Foreign Minister of Sweden at 1:10pm. After that he will hold a meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General for 10 minutes from 2:15pm. Later he is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of Thailand Anutin Charnvirakul at the ‘UN Bilateral Booth’ from 2:30pm to 3pm.

After finishing the speech at the General Assembly the Prime Minister will return from the United Nations headquarters to the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh or the Hotel Hyatt Grand Central of New York. At night he will take part in a formal dinner organised at the office of the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations.

The next day on Friday (September 25) the Prime Minister will take part in a breakfast meeting organised with the representatives of Wall Street at the headquarters of JP Morgan in Manhattan in the morning. At 11am he will hold a meeting with Crown Prince of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah at the Permanent Mission of the country. At noon an exchange of views on international geopolitics, global trends and risks is scheduled with President of the International Peace Institute Prince Zeid Al Hussein over lunch. Later the Prime Minister will hold a courtesy meeting with the leaders and workers of BNP of the United States at Hotel Grand Hyatt.

After finishing the United Nations visit Tarique Rahman will set out for Dhaka via Dubai on a flight of Emirates Airlines at 11pm New York time on September 25. The flight is scheduled to reach Dubai at 8pm on September 26. From there it is scheduled to depart for Dhaka at 2am on September 27 and land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:40am.
