Tarique Rahman’s return an unforgettable moment in democratic history: Salahuddin
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed on Thursday described the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to Bangladesh as a historic and unforgettable moment in the country’s democratic journey.
Speaking to reporters at the CIP gate of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on December 25, Salahuddin said Tarique Rahman’s homecoming after nearly 17–18 years in exile marks a significant chapter in Bangladesh’s 55-year history.
“Millions of people across the country are eagerly waiting just to catch a glimpse of him and hear a few words from him,” he said.
Salahuddin Ahmed said years of struggle for democracy and voting rights have renewed public hope. “For the past 16–17 years, we have waged a continuous movement to restore democracy and the right to vote. Through the mass uprising of students and the people, that democratic struggle has reached its culmination. Fascism has fallen, democracy has been freed, and today we stand in an atmosphere of liberation,” he added.
Expressing optimism, he said, “With public support, following the democratic transition, we want to build a truly democratic, discrimination-free and well-governed state.”
