Khaled Saifullah, husband of Tasnim Jara, has resigned from the National Citizen Party (NCP), days after his wife stepped down from the party.

Saifullah had been serving as joint convener of the party as well as head of its Policy and Research Wing.

In a letter addressed to NCP Convener Nahid Islam on Wednesday (December 31), Khaled Saifullah said, “I hereby resign from all posts and responsibilities of the NCP.” A copy of the letter was also sent to the party’s Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain.

The resignation was confirmed later that night by NCP Joint Member Secretary and Media Cell Editor Mushfiq Us Saleheen.

Earlier, on December 27, Tasnim Jara resigned from the NCP and announced her decision to contest the Dhaka-9 constituency as an independent candidate. She had previously been the NCP-nominated candidate for the seat.

So far, at least eight NCP leaders, including Tasnim Jara and Khaled Saifullah, have resigned over the party’s alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami. Additionally, at least five female leaders have expressed dissatisfaction over the issue, two of whom have withdrawn from the election despite being nominated by the party.
