Tax return filing deadline extended to 16 February
The deadline for submitting income tax returns has been extended again. The deadline for filing has been set for February 16.
On the other hand, in a separate order, the deadline for filing returns for company taxpayers has been extended from February 15 to March 16.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has taken this decision considering the demands of businessmen and professionals. NBR Public Relations Officer Al-Amin Sheikh confirmed that a separate instruction was issued in this regard on Thursday (January 30).
The deadline for filing returns has been extended for the third time. Earlier, the deadline for filing returns was January 31. According to the Income Tax Act, 2023, the last day for filing income tax returns for all categories of taxpayers, except companies, for the 2024-2025 tax year is November 30. The deadline was extended in two phases after last August, considering the situation.
According to the latest figures received from the NBR, the number of online return filings has crossed 1.2 million. This year, through a special order of the National Board of Revenue, it has been made mandatory for all government employees located in Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Gazipur and Narayanganj City Corporations, officers and employees of all scheduled banks across the country, employees of all mobile telecom service providers and employees working in multinational companies to file their income tax returns online.
With the aim of simplifying the filing of returns and tax compliance for the 2024-25 tax year, the NBR opened the online return filing system (e-return) for taxpayers from September 9. From now on, taxpayers will be able to pay income tax online by paying the prescribed charges through that system.
