Teachers’ delegation meets education minister for talks

An eight-member delegation of candidates finally recommended under the Primary Assistant Teacher Recruitment-2025 process has gone to the Ministry of Education for talks with Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon, as protesters continue their demonstration in Shahbagh demanding appointment orders.

The protesters announced the development aroundfrom their sit-in programme in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh on Sunday noon.

The recommended candidates had begun their previously declared protest on the road in front of the museum at 11am, demanding immediate issuance of joining orders.

Later, following a request from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Masud Alam, the protesters agreed to send a delegation for discussions.

Earlier, tensions briefly escalated when police attempted to remove protesters from the road, leading to verbal altercations and minor scuffles. The situation later calmed, and demonstrators decided to continue their gathering within police barricades.

The protesters remain stationed on the road in front of the National Museum and said their next course of action would depend on the outcome of the meeting.

Written examinations for assistant teacher recruitment were held simultaneously in 61 districts across the country, excluding the three hill districts on January 9. A total of 69,265 candidates who passed the written test were selected for viva examinations.

The final recruitment results for government primary school assistant teachers were published, with 14,384 candidates initially selected for appointment on February 8. District-wise lists of successful candidates were also released.

However, despite more than two and a half months having passed since the publication of results, the selected candidates have yet to receive joining orders.
