University Teachers' Network has called for an end to unauthorised activities of elected student representatives of various universities. In a statement on Sunday (December 28), the platform strongly condemned such activities.

The statement of the Teachers' Network comes in the context of the role of RUCSU GS Salahuddin Ammar in forcing the resignation of six deans at Rajshahi University.

The statement said that under the leadership of GS Salahuddin Ammar, various activities have been carried out to create mob tendencies on the campus and harass students and teachers. To create an atmosphere of terror on the campus, the GS of RUCSU has repeatedly declared that if pro-League teachers enter the campus, they will be 'dragged by the collar and tied in front of the administration building.'

At the same time, the VP of RUCSU, Mostaqur Rahman Zahid, declared, 'No Awami fascist teacher will be allowed to come to class at Rajshahi University.' He also called for the eviction of the Indian High Commission in Rajshahi.'

The statement also said that these elected student representatives are directly or indirectly linked to the politics of the Islami Chhatra Shibir.

The University Teachers Network considers such behavior of the RUCSU leaders as a direct attack on academic freedom. According to them, its 'spiral effect' has already spread to other educational institutions in the country.

Demanding the immediate arrest of Osman Hadi's killers, the Teachers Network statement said, 'Taking advantage of the frustrating and angry situation created after the shooting and tragic death of young politician Sharif Osman Hadi, opportunistic groups have created one after another undesirable incidents.'

The University Teachers Network has strongly demanded an end to the harassment of student representatives and members of a particular political party on campus and the unauthorized activities. The statement said that Jamaat-e-Islami must also bring the misdeeds of its affiliate Chhatra Shibir leaders under control. At the same time, it has also called for an end to the culture of avoiding responsibility by showing 'personal opinions' that has developed in the case of the banned Chhatra League.
