Teachers to provide list of 'supportive books' as alternative to guidebooks: Education Minister
There is no objection to recognising book selling as an industry if it benefits businessmen, Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon has said. He stated that the current education system is moving towards a point where notes and guidebooks will no longer be necessary.
The minister made the remarks as chief guest at the annual general meeting of the Bangladesh Book Publishers and Sellers Association at Bangla Academy on Friday, May 8.
He said teachers should not prescribe that students must read notes or guidebooks. Instead, teachers should provide a list of supportive books, from which students can purchase.
The printing press is a highly respectable business, he added. The cost at which books are produced in Bangladesh is unmatched elsewhere in the world. Books are sold at reasonable prices in the country. He urged publishers to work as complements to one another in the printing industry.
Addressing book publishers, the minister stressed the need to ensure the use of quality paper in printing books.
He also noted that Khaleda Zia's attention and budget allocation for education were unmatched, and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, following his parents, has also prioritised education.
