Tension escalates as GOP breaks police barricades near JaPa office
Leaders and activists of the Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) staged a torch procession and took position in front of the Jatiya Party (JaPa) office in Kakrail after breaking through police barricades on Friday evening, sparking widespread tension.
Following an earlier clash around evening hours, GOP members marched to the JaPa office at approximately 8:15 PM. Despite heavy police presence, protesters ignored barricades and began throwing bricks and stones toward the party office. Simultaneously, banners and festoons displayed by JP leaders and supporters were torn down.
In retaliation, Jatiya Party activists also hurled bricks and stones from the opposite side, escalating the conflict.
As of the latest reports, the situation remains tense in the Bijoynagar area, with both groups frequently chanting slogans. The deployment of army personnel to the scene has been confirmed as authorities seek to control the unrest.
