Dhaka University’s central and hall union elections were held peacefully on Tuesday. But as evening fell, the campus took on a tense atmosphere ahead of the announcement of results, prompting heightened security measures.

Witnesses said leaders and activists from Jamaat-Shibir and the BNP, along with affiliated organizations, began gathering in different parts of the campus from the afternoon. In response, additional members of law enforcement agencies were deployed to maintain order.

By evening, activists from BNP and Jamaat had taken up positions in Nilkhet, while others were seen around Shahbagh, TSC, and Doel Chattar. Their presence led to growing tension across the campus area.

At around 8 p.m., Masud Alam, Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Ramna Division, said law enforcement forces were on high alert. “We have strengthened our presence since evening. Vehicles are being searched, and our members are fully prepared to deal with any untoward situation,” he told reporters.

Meanwhile, Chhatra Dal activists staged several processions on campus after dusk, chanting slogans directed against Jamaat-Shibir.
