Thakurgaon-1: BNP’s nomination seekers’ interviews end, decision later
The national standing committee of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has taken interviews of the nomination seekers for the Thakurgaon-1 by-election. However, the party has not yet officially announced who will be the final party candidate. Acting secretary general of BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Friday night that the decision on this matter will be announced after the final nomination.
The meeting of the party’s national standing committee started at the BNP chairman’s office in Gulshan of the capital. BNP chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman presided over the meeting after evening on Friday (September 18). Talking to journalists after the meeting, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said this meeting was held mainly as the meeting of the party’s nomination board. As per the party constitution, the national standing committee performs the responsibility of BNP’s nomination board.
Rizvi said interviews of the candidates for the Thakurgaon-1 by-election have been taken. However, the decision on who will be given the final nomination will be announced later.
Three leaders have submitted nomination forms seeking BNP’s nomination in this constituency. They are Thakurgaon district BNP president Mirza Faisal Amin, district BNP joint president Sultanul Ferdous Nomro Chowdhury and district BNP joint president and former VP and GS of Thakurgaon Government College Obaidullah Masud.
Earlier BNP had said the by-election in the vacant Thakurgaon-1 constituency will be held on October 29. As per the schedule of the Election Commission, the last date for submission of nomination papers by candidates is September 27.
Meanwhile, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also said there was no discussion in the meeting on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to the United States.
