Thakurgaon-1 by-polls: BNP to announce final candidate on Sep 18

The by-election for the Thakurgaon-1 constituency will be held on October 29. With this goal, after collecting and submitting party nomination forms, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will finalise its candidate for the by-election on September 18 according to the decision of the party's nomination board.

BNP acting secretary general Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said this after a standing committee meeting at the party's Gulshan office in the capital on Saturday night, September 12.

The BNP acting secretary general said the by-election for Thakurgaon-1, the constituency of BNP's former secretary general and current President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, will be held on October 29.

He said those contesting in this election will collect nomination papers from BNP's Nayapaltan office on September 15 according to the party's decision.

He further said the collected nomination papers will be submitted the next day, September 16.

Additionally, the candidate will be finalised on September 18 according to the decision of the party's national standing committee's nomination board.

Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also said several decisions have been taken at the BNP standing committee meeting to prevent dengue.

He said BNP will conduct extensive publicity campaigns across the country to raise dengue awareness. Mosquito nets will be supplied to district and upazila-level hospitals.

Additionally, a leaflet prepared by renowned doctors and specialists on dengue prevention will be distributed in Dhaka and across the country.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, according to the meeting's decision, awareness-raising measures on dengue prevention will be broadcast on social media, mass media, radio and television. The meeting also discussed ensuring arrangements for waste bins in schools, madrasas and markets. He also said BNP will take all necessary initiatives to raise dengue awareness.
