The state will be strong only if the people are economically strong: PM

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated that the government's goal is to take the country to a strong economic and social position, emphasizing that ensuring people's economic capability alongside political rights is essential. He made these remarks while speaking at a lease agreement signing ceremony held at the Cabinet Division conference room in the Bangladesh Secretariat, where three closed state-owned jute mills were leased to two private companies on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister stated that a state becomes strong when the economic capability of its people is ensured, noting that no nation can become strong by keeping ordinary people in poverty or by silencing them. Reaffirming his commitment to standing by the country's genuine entrepreneurs, he said the government will provide them with necessary support. He added that cooperating with entrepreneurs will create employment and security of life for people on one hand, while improving the overall economic situation on the other.

"We want to create a country where everyone will be in a better condition than they are in right now; this is our main goal and objective," the Prime Minister said.

Emphasizing domestic investment alongside foreign investment, the Prime Minister stated that foreign investment will certainly come and the government welcomes it, but the country's own investors and entrepreneurs must also be encouraged. He assured that the government will provide all necessary policy support for their businesses and investments.

Mentioning that the core objective of the government's policies is to create opportunities for people of all classes and professions, the Prime Minister said the administration is working to build a beautiful and strong country with everyone's cooperation.

Towards the end of his speech, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman thanked the two business groups that took over the responsibility of the three mills. He expressed hope that these institutions will succeed in their new investments and contribute to the nation's economy through job creation.

The event was also addressed by Minister for Commerce, Industries, and Textiles and Jute Khondaker Abdul Muktadir, State Minister for Textiles and Jute Shariful Alam, Textiles and Jute Secretary Sharaf Uddin Ahmad Chowdhury, PRAN-RFL Group Chairman Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, and Hamko Group Managing Director A.T.M. Mostafa. Senior officials from the Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) and the leasing companies were also present at the ceremony.
