They are trying to attack me with mob: Fazlur Rahman

BNP Chairperson’s adviser and senior Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Fazlur Rahman said, “I did not call Jamaat a dark force or blame them for the August 5 incident. Such claims are fabricated. If you listen to my full statement, you will see the truth. These false accusations are being used to incite a mob against me.”

He made the remarks while addressing reporters in front of the Supreme Court Annex Building on Monday ( August 25).

Responding to a question, Fazlur Rahman said, “Show me any proof that I called Jamaat a dark force or blamed them for the August 5 incident. You need to play my full speech, not just two lines from YouTube. I never made such a statement. If the complete video proves it, I will apologize—otherwise, I won’t.”

“These days, a lot of things are being fabricated. This could be one of them,” he added.

Fazlur Rahman also said, “Two YouTubers from France, connected to Jamaat, have threatened to kill me. I am a freedom fighter. During the 1971 Liberation War, I served as a commander representing 1,200 freedom fighters. I will never compromise on the issue of Jamaat-e-Islami’s role in 1971. They must confront the truth.”

“I live in the Concord Building, opposite the Anti-Corruption Commission office. One morning, I heard 7–8 students shouting slogans against me. Now they are trying to attack me and incite a mob. I am not afraid of mobs or death. But I have seen young men and women protesting in front of my house, and two YouTubers from France have threatened to kill me. The Constitution gives me the right to live. If my words have offended anyone, they can file a case or have me arrested. But why are they talking about killing me? As a freedom fighter, don’t I have the right to live?” he added.

Regarding the BNP’s show-cause notice, Fazlur Rahman said, “I received the notice around 9.00 pm last Sunday, delivered to my house by a messenger. I have decided to respond to it.”
