Third session of parliament to continue till September 10

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad has decided at a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee held in the cabinet room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on the opening day of the session that the third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad will continue till September 10 on Thursday.

Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman, Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman and other members of the committee were present at the meeting. Discussions were held at the meeting on the duration of the session and the schedule for conducting parliamentary activities.

According to the decision, the session will sit at 3pm every day except government holidays and August 31 and September 1. The session will be adjourned on September 10. The Speaker has been given the power to change the schedule of the session and working days if necessary.

Discussions were also held at the meeting on the possible schedule and duration of the sessions of parliament in the coming one year.

A total of 2,818 questions have been submitted for the third session. Of these, 142 are for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and 2,676 for other ministers.

Besides, 81 notices under Rule 71 of the Rules of Procedure and 249 notices for proposals under Rule 131 have been submitted for discussion on important issues related to public interest.

Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, ATM Azharul Islam and Chief Whip of the Opposition Nahid Islam were present at the meeting.

Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal also took part in the meeting on the special invitation of the Speaker. Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan provided secretarial assistance at the meeting.
