This victory is for democracy, for Bangladesh: Tarique Rahman

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has thanked the people of the country wholeheartedly for electing BNP to victory in the election, stating that this victory belongs to democracy, to Bangladesh and to democracy-loving people. He remarked, "From today, we are free."

He made these comments at a press conference arranged at the Hotel Intercontinental in the capital on Saturday afternoon, February 14.

Tarique Rahman said he congratulates the people of the country. He noted that it has been possible to pave the way for democracy by overcoming all obstacles. He said the new government is set to commence its journey amid a fragile economy left behind by fascism, ineffective constitutional and statutory institutions, and a weak law and order situation.

He further said that due to the spontaneous participation of the people, after more than one and a half decades, an accountable parliament and government are being established in the country again through direct voting. He called upon everyone to remain united so that no anti-democratic force can establish fascism in the country in the future.

The BNP chairman congratulated the 51 political parties that participated in the election, including Jamaat-e-Islami, NCP, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Jamiat-e-Islam, Ganadhikar Parishad and others.
