Three ICT judges inspect RAB's Taskforce for Interrogation cell

Three members of International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 inspected the Rapid Action Battalion's (RAB) Taskforce for Interrogation (TFI) Cell at the RAB-1 headquarters in Uttara, a facility that has frequently been referred to in public discourse as the "Aynaghar."

The inspection, conducted around 11:00am on Saturday (August 1), was carried out as part of the tribunal's ongoing investigation into allegations of enforced disappearances and unlawful detention.

The delegation was led by ICT-1 Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder, accompanied by tribunal members Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Justice Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

Members of the prosecution team, led by Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam, also joined the visit. Prosecutors Mizanul Islam, Gazi MH Tamim, Faruk Ahmed, Shaikh Mahdi, Shahidul Islam Sardar and Tasmirul Islam were present, alongside defence lawyers representing the accused.

The inspection follows an order issued by ICT-1 on July 21 after the Chief Prosecutor sought permission to examine the alleged detention facility. The application also requested access to other alleged secret detention centres linked to RAB, the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) and the Detective Branch (DB).

According to the prosecution, the inspection forms part of an investigation into allegations that political opponents were secretly detained, subjected to torture and forcibly disappeared during the Awami League's years in power. Those allegations remain under judicial investigation.

Tribunal sources said observations and findings from Saturday's visit will be considered as part of the ongoing investigation and judicial proceedings.
