Three more die with measles symptoms, death toll rises to 831
One more person has died from confirmed measles and two more with measles symptoms in the country over the past 24 hours. With this, the death toll from confirmed measles has risen to 96, while the number of deaths with measles symptoms has reached 735 since March 15.
The Directorate General of Health Services provided this information in its latest report published on Wednesday (July 29).
According to the DGHS data, the highest number of deaths with measles symptoms — 320 — has occurred in Dhaka division. Additionally, 107 deaths were recorded in Sylhet, 91 in Rajshahi, 69 in Mymensingh, 61 in Chattogram, 44 in Barishal, 32 in Khulna and 11 in Rangpur division.
The report said 996 new patients with measles symptoms were admitted to various hospitals across the country in the 24 hours following Tuesday 8am. Of them, 925 were hospitalised.
During the same period, 79 more people tested positive for measles through sample analysis. However, the DGHS noted that not all patients arriving at hospitals are tested, so the number of confirmed cases does not fully reflect the actual spread of the disease.
Since March 15, a total of 126,540 patients with measles symptoms have visited hospitals across the country. Of them, 109,366 have been admitted for treatment. Laboratory analysis of samples has confirmed measles infection in 15,739 individuals.
