Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has said that the signing of the July Charter marks the beginning of a new birth for Bangladesh, describing it as the “second phase” of the mass uprising that brought change to the nation.

Speaking as the chief guest at the July Charter signing ceremony on Friday afternoon, Professor Yunus said, “With the signing of the July Charter, we have launched a new Bangladesh. It will stand as an example for the entire world. Through this charter, we have moved from barbarism to civilisation. This signing represents our commitment to a rule-based system. The July Charter will be included in academic curricula.”

He emphasised that the nation now stands at a turning point, crediting the transformation to the people’s uprising — particularly that of the students.

At the beginning of his speech, Professor Yunus paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives during the uprising, expressing deep gratitude to the wounded and those who continue to suffer.

He said, “It is because of their sacrifice that this day has been made possible, and the nation will remain eternally grateful.”

Professor Yunus added that the uprising allowed the nation to abandon outdated debates and bring new ideas into national life. Among the core reforms, he mentioned constitutional amendments and changes to governance mechanisms, ensuring that “many new elements have now been introduced through this transformation.”
