Thundershowers likely in 14 districts by noon

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain, thunder showers and gusty winds in several parts of the country by midday today, issuing a cautionary alert for 14 river ports.
In a bulletin issued on Sunday morning (June 21), meteorologist Md. Abdul Hamid Mia said that rain or thunderstorms accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds may sweep across 14 regions by 1:00pm.
The affected areas include Rangpur, Rajshahi, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet. Winds may blow from the south or southeast at speeds of 45 to 60 kmph.
The Met Office also warned that some areas may experience moderate to heavy rainfall along with thunder activity during this period.
Due to the adverse weather conditions, inland river ports in the affected regions have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number one.
Weather experts have urged people to avoid open fields, riverbanks and water bodies during thunderstorms, and advised vessels to navigate cautiously.
