Thundershowers likely in Dhaka, four seaports asked to hoist signal No. 3

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has asked four seaports to keep the local warning signal No. 3 hoisted as a well-marked low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal moves west-northwest and may intensify.

The ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to maintain the warning signal as gusty winds may affect the sea ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas.

According to the BMD, the low-pressure area was located over the west-central Bay and adjoining east-central Bay after moving west-northwest from the east-central Bay and adjoining North Andaman Sea. It is likely to move further in the same direction and strengthen.

Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.

Meanwhile, Dhaka may experience light rain or thundershowers by Tuesday afternoon, the BMD said in its six-hour forecast issued from 7am. The capital’s sky may remain temporarily partly cloudy, with winds blowing from the south or southeast at 10–15 kilometres per hour.

Dhaka recorded a temperature of 28.8°C at 6am Tuesday, with relative humidity at 83%. The previous day’s maximum temperature was 36.7°C. The daytime temperature is expected to remain largely unchanged.
