Thunderstorms, gusty winds likely in 16 regions by midnight

The Met Office has issued a warning for thunderstorms and gusty winds in 16 regions across the country by 1:00 am on Saturday night, May 23, with wind speeds potentially reaching up to 60 kilometres per hour.

According to an inland river ports forecast by meteorologist AKM Nazmul Haque, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Jashore, Kushtia, Faridpur, Madaripur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Sylhet regions may experience temporary gusty or squally winds accompanied by rain and thunderstorms from the west or north-west. River ports in these areas have been asked to hoist warning signal number one.

In a 24-hour forecast issued earlier in the morning, the Met Office said many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and one or two places in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also possible in some places.

A mild heatwave is currently sweeping over Madaripur, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Chandpur, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Feni, Bandarban, Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Jashore, Chuadanga and Patuakhali districts. However, the heatwave may subside in some areas due to rainfall.

Day temperatures may drop slightly across the country, while night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged, according to the forecast.
