Thunderstorms, gusty winds likely in six regions by noon
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast gusty winds and rain, including thunderstorms, in six regions before noon on Thursday and asked river ports in the affected areas to hoist warning signals.
In its warning issued for the country’s inland river ports for 5am to 1pm Thursday, the weather office said temporary gusty or squally winds may sweep across Sylhet, Mymensingh, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar.
Winds may reach speeds of 45 to 60 kilometres per hour during the period, accompanied by rain or thundershowers, the forecast said.
The river ports in the six regions have been advised to display warning signal No. 1. Authorities have also urged vessels operating on the waterways to exercise caution amid the risk of sudden squalls.
Dhaka may also experience rain or thundershowers, according to the weather office’s six-hour forecast issued from 7am. The capital and surrounding areas may remain partly cloudy to cloudy, with winds blowing from the south or southwest at 10-15kmph.
The temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 28.3°C at 6am, while relative humidity stood at 89 percent. The capital received 12mm of rainfall in the preceding 24 hours.
