Thunderstorms likely in Dhaka, heavy rain in seven divisions

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain or thundershowers in Dhaka and neighbouring areas on Thursday (September 10), with moderate to heavy rainfall possible in parts of seven divisions across the country.

The forecast, valid from 7am for the following six hours, said the capital could experience partly cloudy skies, rain or thunderstorms and occasional gusty winds. Winds may blow from the south or southeast at 10-15 kmph, while daytime temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged.

Dhaka recorded a temperature of 26.2°C at 6am on Thursday, with relative humidity at 98 percent. The capital’s maximum temperature was 33.4°C on Wednesday, while Thursday’s minimum was 26.1°C.

The Met Office said there was no warning signal for the country’s inland river ports from 5am to 1pm on Thursday.

Rainfall is expected to remain active across the country over the next five days, with a low-pressure area likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas within the next 24 hours.

Until Thursday evening, many parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions may receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds. Some areas could experience moderate to heavy rainfall.

Day and night temperatures across the country are likely to remain nearly unchanged, the forecast said.
