A joint force detained BNP activist Badrul Alam Shyamal after recovering Tk 15 lakh from a vehicle used for electioneering by Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, the BNP candidate for the Lakshmipur-3 constituency. He was later released following verification of the source of the money. District Additional Superintendent of Police Rezaul Haque said Shyamal was released after the recovered money was proven to be his own. News spread on Wednesday evening, February 11, that a BNP activist had been detained with cash from Annie's election vehicle. However, within a short time, verification by the joint force confirmed that the money was personal, and no further action was taken.

লক্ষ্মীপুর-৩ আসনে বিএনপির প্রার্থী শহীদ উদ্দীন চৌধুরী এ্যানির নির্বাচনী কাজে ব্যবহৃত একটি গাড়ি থেকে ১৫ লাখ টাকা উদ্ধার করে বিএনপি কর্মী বদরুল আলম শ্যামলকে আটক করেছিল যৌথ বাহিনী। পরে অর্থের উৎস যাচাই-বাছাই করে তাকে ছেড়ে দেওয়া হয়। জেলার অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ সুপার রেজাউল হক জানান, উদ্ধার করা টাকা বদরুল আলম শ্যামলের নিজস্ব বলে প্রমাণ পাওয়ার পর তাকে ছেড়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে। বুধবার (১১ ফেব্রুয়ারি) সন্ধ্যার পর এ্যানির নির্বাচনী গাড়ি থেকে টাকাসহ একজন বিএনপি কর্মী আটকের খবর ছড়িয়ে পড়ে। তবে অল্প সময়ের মধ্যেই যৌথ বাহিনীর যাচাই-বাছাইয়ে নিশ্চিত হওয়া যায়, ওই অর্থ ব্যক্তিগত হওয়ায় আর কোনো ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হয়নি।
