A fire that broke out at a cotton warehouse in Gazipur's Tongi, has been brought under control after two hours.

Seven fire service units worked for two hours and managed to extinguish the blaze around 1:30pm. At least seven warehouses were damaged in the fire.

The fire started around 11:30am inside Munno Mills in the Millgate area under Tongi West Police Station.

According to the eye-witnesses, the flames began in the warehouse owned by Abdul Mannan Mia and quickly spread to nearby warehouses owned by Babul Mia, Abdus Sattar Chowdhury, Shahidul Islam, Shahin, and Zahirul Islam.

Senior fire official Shahin Alam said multiple units rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the alert and managed to bring the blaze under control after about two hours.

However, no casualties were reported, and the cause and extent of losses are under investigation.

Officials said the highly flammable nature of cotton and limited water supply at the site made firefighting difficult, but the fire was eventually contained with help from local residents.
