Touhid Afridi gets bail in fraud case
A court has granted bail to content creator and Myti TV chairman Touhid Afridi, son of Nasir Uddin Sathi, in a fraud case filed with Dhaka's Wari Police Station.
Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam's court granted bail on Tuesday (July 21) after hearing the bail petition.
Touhid Afridi's lawyer Iqbal Mahmud Shovon said there are three cases against him. He had already obtained bail from the High Court in two of them. With bail in the Wari Police Station case, he is now on bail in all pending cases. Therefore, there is no legal bar to his release.
Earlier, on June 15, Touhid Afridi was shown arrested in the Wari Police Station case.
According to the case's first information report (FIR), on January 13, 2025, an online fraud ring contacted the victim via WhatsApp and Telegram, enticing her with a job offer. They then convinced her to invest money in phases. Initially, they returned small amounts to gain trust before gradually taking larger sums. Though they promised to return the money with profits, the victim was defrauded of a total of Tk 2,35,000.
The victim, Syeda Ashfah Tohaa Duti, filed the case with Wari Police Station against unidentified accused.
Earlier, on August 24 last year, CID arrested Touhid Afridi from Barishal. Later, he was shown arrested and taken on remand in multiple cases filed over the anti-discrimination movement.
