Train derailment disrupts rail communication with Rangpur

Rail communication between Rangpur and the rest of the country has been disrupted due to the derailment of a freight train (wagon) at Parbatipur railway junction in Dinajpur on Saturday (February 24) morning, leaving passengers in the face of immense sufferings.

According to railway sources, a freight train from Chattogram arrived at Parbatipur with 31 coaches early in the morning. A compartment behind the engine derailed when the train on its way to Rangpur reached the spot around 8:30am. After that, other coaches of the train were dragged back to Parbatipur railway station.

Rangpur Railway Station Superintendent Shankar Ganguly said due to the derailment of the freight train, rail communications with Rangpur have been disrupted totally. For this reason, the Dhaka-bound Kurigram Express is staying at Rangpur station. Other trains are staying at Saidpur railway station.
