Travel ban imposed on former chief justice Khairul Haque, 7 others
A court has imposed a travel ban on eight individuals, including former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque, in a corruption case over plot allocation.
The order was issued on Monday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Fayez following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
Court bench assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed the matter.
Other individuals barred from leaving the country include former RAJUK chairman Md Nurul Huda, RAJUK member AIM Golam Kibria, Md Abu Bakkar Sikder, Md Anwarul Islam Sikder, Akhter Hossain Bhuiyan, joint secretary M Mahbubul Alam and member Nazmul Haque.
The ACC application was submitted by assistant director Afnan Jannat Keya, stating that the accused may flee the country if allowed to travel abroad, which could hamper a proper investigation.
Earlier, in August last year, the ACC filed a case against Khairul Haque and the others on charges of obtaining a 10-katha plot using false information. Khairul Haque is currently in jail.
