Trees cannot be cut without permission: High Court

The High Court has ruled that permission must be obtained from specific authorities before cutting trees. A bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf gave the ruling on Tuesday after hearing a writ petition.


The ruling directed the Department of Environment to form a committee comprising environmentalists, environmental experts, and professors from the Department of Environmental Science of Dhaka and Jahangirnagar Universities within seven days to obtain permission for cutting trees.


In addition, the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration has been asked to issue a circular within seven days and form a committee comprising the Deputy Commissioner, District Environment Officer, Government College Professor, Social Worker, Environmentalist, President and General Secretary of the District Bar Association and District Civil Surgeon. Who will issue permission for cutting trees at the district level.
