Tribunal dismisses Inu’s review petition against charge framing
The International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) dismissed former Information Minister and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) president Hasanul Haq Inu’s review petition challenging the formation of formal charges in a case over the killing of six people during the anti-discrimination student movement in Kushtia.
The two-member bench, led by retired District and Sessions Judge Md. Manjurul Bashid, with Judge Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir, passed the order on Sunday (November 30).
Inu was represented by lawyers Monsurul Haque Chowdhury and Sifat Mahmud, while Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam appeared for the prosecution.
Inu faces eight charges related to the July–August violence in Kushtia, which left six dead and several others injured. During the charge framing, Inu pleaded not guilty and requested the tribunal to scrutinize the allegations thoroughly.
He was arrested on August 26, 2024 from the capital's Uttara and is currently in jail facing multiple cases. Inu previously served as Information Minister under the Awami League government and lost in the 12th parliamentary elections in Kushtia as a coalition candidate.
The tribunal’s dismissal of the review petition clears the way for trial proceedings to continue.
