Tribunal on 20-day vacation from tomorrow
The International Crimes Tribunal will go on a 20-day vacation from tomorrow, Wednesday. The tribunal will be on vacation from July 1 to 20. Chief Prosecutor Md. Aminul Islam confirmed the vacation on Tuesday.
The Rules of Procedure of the International Crimes Tribunal Act were amended on May 17. The amendment states that the Tribunal and Registry will observe vacation from July 1 to 20 and from December 17 to 31 every year. During the vacation, the activities of the Tribunal will continue through at least one member or chairman, and the chairman or member performing duties during the vacation can enjoy the same period of vacation in any other month of the year.
The amendment to the Rules of Procedure further states that the officers and other employees of the Tribunal will perform duties in turns during the vacation, whose duties will be distributed by the Chairman or Registrar of the Tribunal. In addition to the scheduled vacations in July and December, the chairman and members of the tribunal will also be able to enjoy the holidays and official vacations enjoyed by the judges of the Supreme Court.
The International Crimes Tribunal was established on March 25, 2010, under the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973, to try crimes against humanity committed in 1971. This is the first vacation for the tribunal since its formation.
