Tripura CM sends pineapples for PM Tarique Rahman

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has sent 620 Queen variety pineapples as a gift for Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The pineapples, packed in 100 cartons, arrived in Bangladesh through the Akhaura land port in Brahmanbaria on Wednesday (July 29) afternoon.

Akhaura International Immigration Checkpost in-charge Md Alauddin said the pineapples were brought in a pickup van. They were later received by officials of the Indian Assistant High Commission in Chattogram and handed over to officials of the High Commission in Dhaka.

Officials from both countries were present at the handover ceremony, including Pankaj Jyoti Das and Sajib Chakraborty from the Indian Assistant High Commission, Akhaura International Immigration Checkpost in-charge Md Alauddin, and Akhaura Customs Revenue Officer Md Jasim Uddin.

Tripura government officials present included Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Department Secretary Apurba Roy, Director Phani Bhushan Jamatia, Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department Adviser Rajib Ghosh, and BSF officials.

Apurba Roy, Secretary of Tripura's Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Department, said Bangladesh had gifted mangoes to Tripura. In return, the state government has sent the famous Queen variety of pineapples for the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

Officials said the gift exchange is part of the longstanding friendly relations and mutual goodwill between Bangladesh and India.
