BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that if the party comes to power, the phrase ‘trust and faith in Allah’ will be restored in the preamble of the Constitution.

He said this while attending the Khatme Nabuwat Grand Conference at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Saturday, November 15.

He said, “I am impressed seeing the peaceful gathering you have arranged and how calmly you are listening to all the speeches today. This discipline, this peaceful mindset; I know what is in your hearts. I came here only to express solidarity with you.”

“I am a worker of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Our leader, late president Ziaur Rahman, first added ‘Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim’ to the Constitution. It is still there. Many tried to remove it but failed. But what is no longer there is the trust and faith in Almighty Allah that Ziaur Rahman included in the preamble and as a fundamental principle of state policy in Article 8. It has been removed. Do you want us to restore it? Inshallah, we will restore it.”

He added, “The foreign guests who spoke here quoted verses and lines from Allama Iqbal, the Muslim thinker. You have heard the words of the Qur’an. Allah sent the Prophet (SAW) as a mercy to the entire world. We are Muslims. We believe in ‘La ilaha illallahu Muhammadur Rasulullah’. The Prophet (SAW) said, ‘I am the last Prophet. No prophet will come after me.’ So if anyone declares himself a prophet after that, he is outside this declaration of the Prophet (SAW). Allama Iqbal said—‘Ki Muhammad se wafa tune to hum tere hain…’.”

Salahuddin said, “We believe the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the final Prophet. We became Muslims by reciting the Kalema. As citizens of Bangladesh, we believe in the identity of Bangladesh. But globally, all Muslims belong to the Millat-e-Islamia. Because of our divisions, today our brothers in Palestine are facing genocide. Our Rohingya brothers are being killed in different parts of the world. Only because of our weakness.”
