Two accused remanded for 5 days in Bogura businessman murder case

A Bogura court has granted five days’ remand each for two accused arrested in connection with the abduction and killing of a businessman from his workplace in Dupchanchia. The order was passed on Tuesday evening by Bogura Judicial Magistrate Ariful Haque, confirmed court police inspector Shahidul Islam.
According to court sources, investigating officer and Dupchanchia police sub-inspector Raihan Kabir produced the two accused before the court on Monday afternoon, seeking seven days’ remand for each. After hearing, the court allowed five days’ remand per accused.
The remanded accused are microbus driver Sanowar Hossain, 40, of Sajapur village in Dupchanchia upazila, and Sakib, 24, of Karamji village in the same upazila.
Police said that on Monday at around 9:15 pm, miscreants forced Pintu Akand into a microbus at gunpoint from his business establishment in Dupchanchia sadar. The entire abduction was captured on nearby CCTV cameras and later circulated on social media.
About two hours later, at around 11:15 pm, police recovered Pintu Akand’s body from the Kumarpara area of neighbouring Adamdighi upazila. He owned a shoe showroom in Dupchanchia sadar and was a resident of Lohachura village in Raninagar upazila of Naogaon.
Following the incident, the victim’s wife Sabina Khatun filed a case with Dupchanchia police station against six to seven unidentified persons on charges of abduction and murder. The two detained individuals were later shown arrested in the case and produced before the court.
Dupchanchia police station officer-in-charge Afzal Hossain said the victim’s nose and mouth were found wrapped with scotch tape at the time of recovery, indicating death by suffocation. The microbus used in the crime has been seized, and the driver was initially detained and interrogated. The exact motive behind the killing is yet to be determined. After autopsy, the body was handed over to the family.
