Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Sarwar has instructed that each bus should have at least two drivers to prevent any driver from driving for more than four to five consecutive hours, aiming to reduce road accidents during Eid journeys.

He gave this directive during a views-exchange meeting with bus owners and workers at the capital's Mohakhali Bus Terminal on Wednesday afternoon, March 11.

The DMP Commissioner said a large number of armed police, traffic police, DB, SWAT members and dog squads will be deployed at bus and launch terminals and railway stations to ensure safe and hassle-free journeys for passengers during Eid.

He further informed that the administration will conduct mobile courts to prevent dilapidated or unfit buses from plying on the roads. He also instructed bus owners to remain vigilant so that passengers are not picked up from the middle of the road, causing traffic jams.

The DMP Commissioner also said magistrates from six agencies including BRTA and city corporations will conduct coordinated operations to prevent extra fare collection during Eid journeys.
