Two journos injured in attack in Motijheel
Two journalists were violently attacked near Bangladesh Bank in the capital’s Motijheel area on Saturday night (August 30).
The victims have been identified as Redwanul Haque, senior correspondent of DBC News, and A Z Bhuiyan Anas, a journalist of Kalbela. Both suffered serious injuries.
According to Redwanul Haque, the incident took place around 8:00pm while the two were conversing in front of a building behind Bangladesh Bank.
A man, identified as Alam, allegedly approached them and demanded they leave the area. When questioned, he reportedly began assaulting them. Moments later, he was joined by approximately 10 others who attacked the journalists with sticks.
The assault was reported to the Motijheel Police Station.
Mejbah Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Motijheel Police Station, confirmed that police responded promptly but were unable to locate the attackers at the scene.
The incident has drawn strong condemnation from the media community. Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) President Abu Saleh Akon denounced the attack and called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
