Two LPG vessels arrive at Ctg port, four more expected this month
Two ships carrying LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) from India and Malaysia have arrived at the outer anchorage of Chattogram port to meet the country's energy demand and alleviate the ongoing gas crisis. Four more LPG and LNG (liquefied natural gas) vessels are expected to arrive this month, said Chattogram Port Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim.
On Sunday, April 12, the port secretary said two vessels named 'Gas Carriage' from India and another LPG carrier from Malaysia anchored at the port's outer anchorage on Saturday night. The vessels are currently stationed at the port's Charlie and Bravo points.
Port sources said the process of unloading gas through lighterage vessels will begin very soon.
Sources also said a large vessel named 'Kongtong' carrying LNG from the United States is expected to arrive on Sunday. Additionally, another vessel named 'Paul' carrying LPG from Malaysia is scheduled to arrive at the port on Monday.
According to Chattogram port authority data, 'Maran Gas Hydra' from Australia will arrive on April 15, followed by another vessel named 'Lobito' on April 18.
Experts believe the gradual arrival of these vessels will alleviate the LPG and industrial gas shortage in the local market. Despite global fuel instability due to ongoing geopolitical tensions and war in the Middle East, the government has continued the process of importing gas and oil from various alternative sources.
The government's primary objective is to ensure power generation and normal operations of industries through domestic production alongside imports.
