Two more die of measles in 24 hours, death toll rises to 379

Two more people have died from measles-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services. The latest deaths bring the total number of children who have died from suspected measles since March 15 to 379.

A total of 1,069 new cases of measles or suspected measles symptoms have been detected during the same period, the DGHS said in its regular report on Saturday, May 16.

On Friday, May 15, a total of 12 children died from confirmed measles and measles-like symptoms, including four confirmed measles cases and eight suspected cases.

According to government data by division, Dhaka division has recorded the highest number of confirmed measles deaths, with 47 children. The division has also reported 150 suspected measles deaths.

Rajshahi division follows with 78 suspected measles deaths, Chattogram with 35, Mymensingh with 32, Sylhet with 30, Barishal with 29, Khulna with 19, and Rangpur division with four deaths.
