Two muggers killed in mob beating in Mohammadpur
Two alleged muggers were killed in separate mob beatings in the Mohammadpur area of the capital in the early hours of Tuesday (September 9). The matter was confirmed by Rafique Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohammadpur Police Station, on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Sujon (19), son of Md Jahangir Alam and Mosammat Shahanaz of Chartittra, Ward 6, Borhanuddin Upazila, Bhola; and Hanif (20), son of the late Jahangir and Ranu Bibi of Shibpur, Lalmohan Upazila, Bhola. Both had been residing in the Bosila Road No. 3 area of Mohammadpur.
According to OC Rafique Ahmed, Sujon was caught by an angry mob while attempting a mugging at Nabinagar Housing, Mohammadpur, and was severely beaten. Police rescued him and took him to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, from where he was referred to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR). Doctors at NITOR declared him dead.
At the same time, Hanif was critically injured in a mob beating while attempting a mugging on Road No. 3, Green City Housing. He was rescued by police and taken to NITOR, where he died under treatment on Wednesday morning.
OC Rafique added that both deceased had four prior cases each against them involving mugging and robbery.
