Two newly elected MPs take oath in Parliament
Two newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) took their oath on Sunday (April 12) following victories in the 13th national parliamentary elections.
The oath was administered at this noon at the Speaker’s office in the Jatiya Sangsad complex by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, (Bir Bikram).
Senior political figures, including Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, were present during the ceremony.
The lawmakers who took oath are Mahmudul Haque Rubel, elected from Sherpur-3 general election, and Rezaul Karim Badsha, who won the Bogura-6 by-election. After the oath, both MPs signed the official oath register as per parliamentary procedure.
Both candidates won by large margins contesting under the BNP’s “Dhaner Shish” symbol.
In Bogura-6 (Sadar), Rezaul Karim Badsha secured 1,33,931 votes, while his nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Abidur Rahman Sohel received 57,159 votes. Another candidate, Al Amin Talukder, polled only 526 votes.
In Sherpur-3 (Shreebordi–Jhenaigati), Mahmudul Haque Rubel won with 1,66,117 votes. His closest competitor, Masudur Rahman of Jamaat-e-Islami, received 47,051 votes, while Mizanur Rahman of the Marxist faction secured 480 votes.
According to the district election office, voter turnout in the Bogura-6 by-election stood at 42.57 per cent, excluding postal ballots, with a total of 1,93,326 valid votes cast.
Officials said the oath-taking marks the formal induction of the two MPs into the 13th parliament.
