Two police officers, who told Inu not to ‘worry’, face disciplinary action
Authorities have initiated departmental proceedings against two police constables who sparked controversy after telling former minister Hasanul Haq Inu “not to worry” while escorting him to court.
The accused officers, Constable Jamal Hossain and Constable Md. Solaiman Hossain, have already been withdrawn from security duties at the International Crimes Tribunal. The tribunal authorities have also sent an official letter to the commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), requesting disciplinary measures against them.
In the letter, signed by Deputy Registrar Mahmudul Hasan on Wednesday (April 29), the tribunal stated that the two constables engaged in inappropriate conversation with the accused while escorting him from the courtroom to the detention cell. The conduct, captured in video footage, was described as a breach of discipline that could undermine tribunal security and judicial proceedings.
The tribunal has asked for a formal investigation into the incident and for appropriate action to be taken, with findings to be reported back.
The issue came to light after a video circulated on social media, showing the officers speaking with Inu during his transfer from Tribunal-2’s courtroom. At one point, they were heard saying, “Don’t worry, sir, we are here.” Authorities view such behavior toward a defendant under trial as inconsistent with professional standards and security protocols.
Inu is currently on trial for crimes against humanity in connection with eight charges, including the killing of six people in Kushtia during the July uprising. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for May 4.
