Two prison inmates die at DMCH

Two prison inmates undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital have died. They are Md Rafiqul Islam (54) and Abdur Rahim (60). They died on Monday morning, September 14.

Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in-charge of the DMCH Hospital Police Outpost, confirmed the matter and said the bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue for post-mortem.

According to prison sources, Md Rafiqul Islam, a life-term convict, fell ill at Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj. He was taken to the emergency department of DMCH at 9:25am on Monday, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Rafiqul Islam's home is in Patranabish village of Ulipur upazila in Kurigram. His father's name is Md Rajab Ali. He was serving a life sentence in a murder case filed with Ulipur Police Station.

On the other hand, convicted prisoner Abdur Rahim died around 10am while undergoing treatment at DMCH. Earlier, on September 3, prison guards had admitted him to DMCH from Dhaka Central Jail, Keraniganj, in an unwell condition.

Abdur Rahim's home is in Gendaria of Shyampur in Dhaka. His father's name is the late Abdur Karim. His daughter, Bristi Begum, said he was a convict serving a seven-year sentence in an arms case.
