Uber's ridesharing enlistment certificate not being renewed
Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) is not renewing the riding enlistment certificate of ridesharing service provider Uber Bangladesh Limited.
According to responsible sources in the Ministry, the agency said that the deadlock has arisen due to the company's failure to provide the necessary information and documents for renewal.
A letter was sent from BRTA's ridesharing branch to the country head of Uber Bangladesh Limited in this regard on May 21, 2026.
BRTA said that the letter sent by Uber has been reviewed. However, due to non-compliance with various instructions, the company's enlistment certificate cannot be renewed.
BRTA asked Uber to submit several information and documents for the renewal of the enlistment certificate. These include updated trade license, ETIN certificate and VAT certificate; List of tripartite agreements signed with the motor vehicle owner and driver; Passenger travel information, fare amount and explanation of the journey viewing method; Application approval letter; Total number of trips in the fiscal year 2024-25 and total VAT amount deposited in the government treasury in that fiscal year.
The letter signed by BRTA Assistant Director (Engineering) Md. Nurul Hossain mentioned that BRTA will also consider the logical issues from the issues presented by Uber in the email. In addition, instructions have been given to take further necessary steps to implement various decisions including collection of commission, closure of fare and bidding system.
Earlier on May 3, 2026, a multi-party meeting chaired by the BRTA Chairman regarding ridesharing services discussed several complaints against Uber and other ridesharing companies. Several decisions were taken in the meeting including closure of Uber's bidding system, setting a maximum commission of 15 percent, closure of non-AC vehicle services and redefinition of the fare structure. Those decisions were ordered to be implemented by May 10, 2026.
